After some master detective work (phoning the hospital) I managed to find out how Gary’s mum was and that his dad had recently left. Finally we managed to contact him and it turned out that he was actually at Gary’s house so we could get in! We rushed off to go and get Gary’s V5 but on the way my top box decided to jump off its fixing plate on to the road, luckily there were no cars behind me and my top box (and a potentially expensive insurance bill) were spared, however it is now covered in scratches, poor top box.

My Equipment
Gary
This weekend was spent working through our gear checklists getting everything ready and packed for the big adventure. The idea was to make sure that everything we wanted to take with us would actually fit on the bikes and pretty much get everything packed away ready to go. We know it might seem a bit early doing this two weeks in advance but we wanted to make sure that we had everything right and that if we came across any major problems we’d at least have a couple of weeks to get them ironed out. By the close of the weekend and after a fair few shopping trips I believe we’re pretty much ready with only a few small things left to buy, we’ve actually been quite productive!
Over the last few months we have both been working on a checklist that contains the things we want to take, the things we own and the things we need to buy. We took these lists as a base, found and dumped everything on them in the middle of our rooms and started sorting all the gear out into the various luggage we have on our bikes. When I was packing my bike for my trip to Scafel earlier this year I pretty much just chucked everything in anywhere and I seemed to have very little room for manoeuvre not to mention not actually knowing where anything was! Taking this new approach I was actually shocked to see how well everything seemed to fit and how much space I actually had left over because of it, I guess there might be something to this planning malarkey after all…
Below you’ll find a complete list of everything I’m taking on my bike.

The Givi Upgrade
Gary
My Givi luggage arrived this week and I spent a couple of hours yesterday putting everything on the bike. A word of warning to anybody trying to fit both the Givi top case mount and the Givi PLX side case rails; don’t try and fit the top case mount first, you’ll end up having to unbolt everything you just bolted on because the side case rails need to be attached first!
I don’t claim to be an expert mechanic; I never manage to pick up the right spanner first time, but I do like to have a go. I know fitting a couple of pannier rails and top case mount isn’t exactly rocket science, I also know most people wouldn’t even class it as mechanics but anything I do to the bike that needs a spanner or a torque wrench makes me feel great; I’m a real man, tinkering out in the garage with my tools, you know what I’m talking about guys.
It took me about 2.5 hours to fit both the rails and the top case mount, everything is now fitted and feels pretty secure. I’ve uploaded images to the gallery so you can check them out there. This is the first modification I’ve made to the Albino, the one that absolutely needed to be done and I’m pretty pleased with the results; the boxes look good and I’ve now got 122 litres of storage space, a tad more than the 30 litres I had on the Monster.
